Jason Sperling
I'm a creative and technical leader with 20+ years in the visual effects industry, combining deep artistic sensibilities with a strong foundation in scalable production technologies. My career spans VFX supervision, studio leadership, and production strategy, and I’ve been recognized with three Primetime Emmy nominations and two Visual Effects Society Award nominations.
Currently, a VFX Supervisor at Refuge VFX, a boutique vendor known for its high-end work and artist-led creative culture. I lead projects across a range of genres and formats, collaborating directly with filmmakers, showrunners and other VFX Supervisors to bring bold ideas to screen, on time and at scale. Previously, I served as Creative Director at Digikore Studios, where I spearheaded the expansion of their North American VFX operations. My focus was on scaling high-performance teams, optimizing internal workflows, and aligning creative delivery with evolving client needs across premium television and streaming projects. Before that, I was Director of VFX for Original Series at Netflix, overseeing more than 60 active productions over five years — including Three Body Problem, Midnight Mass, Vikings: Valhalla, and The Umbrella Academy. I led global teams and collaborated with top-tier vendors and creatives, while driving several internal innovations. These included building tools for VFX breakdowns, bid analysis, and budgeting, and helping architect early VFX strategies for Netflix’s international and domestic content slate.
Throughout my career, I’ve been a problem-solver and connector — bridging the gap between creative ambition and technical execution. I'm a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Visual Effects Society, and I remain passionate about advancing the art, science, and impact of visual storytelling.
