David Bossert
Dave Bossert is a storyteller, creative leader, and innovator who thrives at the intersection of animation, publishing, and technology. For more than 32 years at The Walt Disney Company, he contributed his talents to some of the most iconic animated films and themed entertainment experiences in history. His animation credits include The Black Cauldron, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Lion King, Fantasia/2000, among many others, and the Oscar®-nominated shorts Runaway Brain, Destino, and Lorenzo. He also contributed to award-winning theme park experiences like World of Color, Animation Magic, Paris Dreams, and The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, earning multiple THEA Awards. Dave has worked across a wide spectrum of formats — from hand-drawn and CG animation to live-action hybrids, IMAX, and specialty projections.
He is a member of the CalArts Board of Trustees, the Visual Effects Society (VES), and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), and has served as a visiting scholar at Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) in Pittsburgh. He has presented and lectured at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Salvador Dalí Museum, School of Visual Arts, NYU Film School, Newport Beach Film Festival, Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí (Figueres, Spain), and the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, among others.
As an author, Dave has published more than a dozen books and numerous articles exploring animation history, the creative process, and mid-century design. Recent works include Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Visual Companion (2023, Disney Editions), The House of the Future: Walt Disney, MIT, and Monsanto's Vision of Tomorrow (2023, The Old Mill Press), and Find Your Happy Place: The 8-Step Guide to Boosting Your Creativity Through a Personal Retreat (2024), a creativity-boosting guide for individuals and teams.
His work in visual innovation has led to several U.S. patents, including Parallax-Based Monoscopic Rendering and Viewpoint-Responsive Display Content — developments designed to enrich visual storytelling in immersive and experiential spaces. These patents reflect a passion for solving creative challenges through inventive thinking. Dave's mission has always been to inspire, inform, and innovate — whether on screen, on the page, or through immersive experiences.
