While eagerly awaiting the release of MAGIC: THE GATHERING, my fourth project with Netflix Studios Animation, I am currently enjoying the incredible mini-series EYES of WAKANDA, streaming now on Disney+ and featuring my work on three of the four episodes.
I'm co-hosting the SUPERFAN PODCAST with publicist David Hyde and Mad Cave Studios' executive editor Kristen Simon.
My most recent Visual Effects Consultation was for reshoots on JOHN WICK: BALLERINA
I directed two episodes of live action network television for the CW on their scifi show, PANDORA. This allowed me to use my story art skills to inform every department with drawings I did on the spot. It made for rich, well-viewed episodes that rated high despite a very compressed schedule.
Before my transition to directing, I did a great deal of concept design. In my early 20's, I was hired by Lucasfilm as one of the first artists to retro-design the Star Wars galaxy and visually define its early history, starting from 4000 BBY to the rise of the Empire.
Many of my designs remain active in Star Wars canon, from films to television shows to video games.
I am very proud to have done several tours of duty with Sir Richard Taylor's WETA workshop New Zealand. I was in the design room on KONG and on set with the wardrobe and art department. I also had the privilege of hiring WETA to digitally paint a graphic novel of mine, which is currently in development as a series with a spec pilot written by Ashley E. Miller (THOR, XMEN FIRST CLASS).
Also, as a director, my first short was honored by the ICG (Local 600) with an Emerging Cinematographers Award for my friend and DP James Takata. My first visual effects-heavy short film was very well received on social media, earning almost two million dollars via crowdfunding.
Role with the VES
As I am half Puerto Rican on my mother's side, the opportunity to speak with underrepresented students around Southern California is something I am very grateful for. Thanks to the legendary Patricia Rose Duignan, I am part of the speaker's program. I have connected with many students, letting them know that a career in VFX is not beyond their realm of possibility.
