Carlos Vilchis
Carlos Vilchis is a computer graphics researcher, educator, and virtual production specialist working at the intersection of real-time technologies, visual effects, and digital humans. He currently teaches at the University of the Fraser Valley in Canada and collaborates with studios, technology companies, and universities across North America, Latin America, and Europe.
Carlos previously worked at Industrial Light & Magic, where he contributed to engineering and training initiatives related to real-time workflows and visual effects production. His work in the industry was recognized with a collaborative Emmy Award in 2022.
He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Tecnológico de Monterrey focused on real-time graphics and AI for digital humans, and his research was supported by an Epic MegaGrant from Epic Games. Through his company Virtual Production Academy, he develops training programs and workshops that help studios, artists, and educators adopt emerging technologies such as Unreal Engine, motion capture, and virtual production workflows.
Carlos frequently collaborates with industry partners including Sony, Zeiss, Vicon, and Stage Precision, and is involved in organizing professional initiatives such as the Virtual Production Summit LATAM. His work focuses on bridging research, education, and industry practice in the evolving field of visual effects.
