Art David began his career as a camera operator, then moved to editing where he won a National Emmy award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in 1986.
Later, after editorial commitments with Turner Broadcasting, The Post Group, and The Walt Disney Company, he was attracted to feature film VFX, and launched his own company, Wavelight Digital Images, Inc. As Wavelight, he was a first-call VFX farm-out resource for Sony Pictures Imageworks, Mass Illusion, and Mannex VFX. Feature films included “Die Hard: With a Vengeance”, “Judge Dredd”, “Contact”, “Michael”, “Ghost and the Darkness”, and “The Matrix”, which won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2000.
Art also worked onsite at Sony Pictures Imageworks, Disney Feature Animation, and Industrial Light and Magic on the feature films “Starship Troopers”, “Dinosaur”, “Signs”, and “Men in Black 2”.
He also led the team creating projected screen content for two major ride-film projects, “The Mummy Ride” - Universal Studios, Florida and “The Mummy Ride” - Universal Studios, Hollywood.
Beginning in 2005, Art spent over a decade in executive management at Turner Studios in Atlanta Ga as Vice President of FX, Animation, and Creative Services with a team topping out at 165 artists over 5 departments.
Art currently consults on feature film, episodic VFX production, themed entertainment, and high-end corporate visual storytelling. Recent projects include on-set VFX supervision for the Dreamworks feature film “Thank You for Your Service”, Fox Searchlight’s feature film “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”, NBC Universal’s episodic “Council of Dads, Fox’s episodic “The Resident”, Showtime’s episodic “Ray Donovan”, Miramax’s feature film “Mother Android”, CBS’s episodic “Dynasty”, LD Entertainment’s feature film “I.S.S”, ABC Signature’s “Promised Land”, and Apple TV +’s “Last Days of Ptolemy Grey”, ABC/Hulu’s “The Girl From Plainville”, Miramax’s “The Holdovers”, Paramount’s Tulsa King) and Netflix’s “A Family Affair”.
Art also performed as Story Writer/ Producer/ Editor on the projected media for the “Heroes and Legends – Mercury and Gemini Astronauts” attraction at the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex, as Creative Producer on “Armchair QB”, an immersive VR experience for Nissan and as Creative Producer for “The Jolliest Elf”, an animated special using the Unreal Game Engine for Trick 3D.
Additionally, in 2018, Art was the Startup General Manager of Proof Inc, Atlanta, a Hollywood visualization company that services feature film, themed entertainment, and game projects, and wanted to expand to the Atlanta market.
He speaks to film schools, art and design colleges, trade colleges, and mentors many younger craftsmen entering the industry.
Art is an active charter member of the Georgia Visual Effects Society and helped it to achieve Chapter Status in 2018 and was awarded the honor of VES Luminary in 2020.
