Andrew Palmer

I have two decades of experience in visual effects, spanning more than 60 Hollywood blockbuster films and streaming series. I've contributed work to iconic franchises such as Star Wars, X-Men, Thor, Indiana Jones, Game of Thrones and more. I’m highly passionate about art, animation and visual effects, and I strive to achieve the highest quality results through new technologies. I've been a lead artist for more than half of my career and I naturally lean into mentorship, taking great pride in being able to help others achieve their goals. I'm highly proactive and motivated, Supervision was a natural progression for my personality type and I truly enjoy each facet this role brings.

My core background is in Asset Look Development & Lighting. However, having started as a generalist many years ago, this gave me a key advantage to have insight into how many other departments function, giving me a strong insider understanding of production workflows and studio production as a whole.

I'm also a tinkerer of new technologies. I'm always the first to jump into new software and hardware to see how it can benefit my team's workflows. This has led to building some great relationships with software vendors such as Adobe, The Foundry & Autodesk.

I'm an avid Adobe Substance 3D Beta tester, I have been a key contributor to Substance Painters development for the VFX industry over the past 6 years, working closely during productions and providing feedback based on real world production requirements. I've contributed to Arnold Renderer and USD support, providing highly detailed feedback on issues between DCCs and working directly with Autodesk to bring parity with USD. I have also worked closely with The Foundry on Katana, collaborating with them to improve the Look Development working space, bugs, performance improvements and quality of life improvements.
