SUMMARY:Screening - THE LITTLE PRINCE w/ Q&A (Bay Area)
DESCRIPTION:Bay Area VES Members and a Guest are Invited to a Pre-Release Screening of Netflix’s THE LITTLE PRINCE followed by a Q&A with Director Mark Osborne \nClick here to RSVP \nTuesday\, August 2\, 2016 at 7:00PM \nSkywalker Ranch in the Stag Theater \n5858 Lucas Valley Road\, Nicasio\, CA 94946\n	Click here for a map \n  \nYou and a guest are invited to join us at the Stag Theater at Skywalker Ranch for an advanced screening of THE LITTLE PRINCE\, followed by a Q&A with acclaimed director Mark Osborne. Based on the book of the same name\, the film follows Elena\, a prodigiously gifted young girl living in a world of grown-ups\, being urged by her mother to leave her childhood behind in hopes of enrolling her into the prestigious Werth Academy. But the “life plan” her mother has created for her sounds much less appealing after listening to the stories of the “Little Prince” from the eccentric elderly aviator living next door.\n	 \n	Brought to us by our friends at Netflix\, THE LITTLE PRINCE creates a world of childhood that lasts forever\, written for both children and adults.  It creates the idea that childhood always remains in the hearts of adults and that though we may grow up\, we do not have to lose that sense of imagination. \nAbout The Little Prince\n	Rediscover one of the most beloved stories of all time.  From Mark Osborne\, Academy Award®-nominated director of KUNG FU PANDA\, comes the award-winning adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s iconic masterpiece\, THE LITTLE PRINCE.   At the heart of it all is The Little Girl (Mackenzie Foy)\, who’s being prepared by her mother (Rachel McAdams) for the very grown-up world in which they live – only to be interrupted by her eccentric\, kind-hearted neighbor\, The Aviator (Jeff Bridges).  The Aviator introduces her to an extraordinary new world where anything is possible.   A world that he himself was initiated into long ago by The Little Prince (Riley Osborne).  It’s here that her magical and emotional journey into the universe of The Little Prince begins.  And where The Little Girl discovers that it is only with the heart that one can see rightly what is essential is invisible to the eye. \n  \nAbout Mark Osborne\n	Two time Academy Award nominated director Mark Osborne has been telling stories with animation and live-action for more than twenty-five years.  Currently\, Osborne has directed and Executive Produced the upcoming first-ever animated feature film adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved classic\, The Little Prince. Osborne’s breakout was DreamWorks’ critically acclaimed animated box office hit\, KUNG FU PANDA. The film premiered Out of Competition at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival going on to receive an Academy Award®-nomination for Best Animated Feature.  Among Osborne’s other credits include the animated stop-motion short film\, MORE.  Written and directed by Osborne\, the film screened at more than 150 film festivals worldwide and received numerous awards and nominations including an Academy Award®-nomination for Best Short Film\, a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival\, and an Annie Award-nomination. Osborne studied foundation art at New York’s Pratt Institute before earning his BFA in experimental animation from the California Institute of the Arts. In 1997\, Osborne returned to CalArts to teach Advanced Filmmaking Techniques and has since given lectures and taught on the subject of animation worldwide including Tokyo\, China\, Italy\, Norway\, Canada and all over the U.S. \n  \nWatch the Trailer Here! \nhttps://trailers.apple.com/trailers/paramount/thelittleprince/

SUMMARY:PUB NIGHT! @ Lock and Key
DESCRIPTION:Where: Lock and Key \nAddress:  239 S Vermont Ave\, Los Angeles\, CA 90004 \n[map] \n  \nContinuing on our discovery of cool places in LA\, this month’s “PUBNIGHT!” will be this Thursday at Lock and Key\, a delightful speakeasy in Koreatown.  \n  \nDo not be dissuaded by the grungy exterior common to the streets of this part of Los Angeles.  The red door of Lock and key will open to a surprisingly handsome marble corridor cluttered with an amazing amount of doorknobs and keyholes – the trick is to figure out which door opens the rabbit hole.  I recommend coming with a few people so you have a quicker time of figuring it out – or you can ask the hostess or bouncer if you really get stuck. \n  \nThere is a dress code which includes no shorts\, baseball caps\, or flip flops – just a warning since this is the common VFX workwear.  Jeans are OK\, and even T-shirts can be ok\, but dress on the nicer side to enter without hassle to this speakeasy.    \n  \nLock and Key is intimate and cozy –as would be expected of a speakeasy — but like last month’s Fun Times at Davy Wayne’s\,  it has an open air patio that helps keep your agoraphobia in check .  We will probably be scattered all over the venue\, so look for Lopsie (the Los Angeles Section Events Committee Chair) passing out the blinking VES pins to help identify our party.  At our last “PUBNIGHT!” we realized that people can’t see the flashing pins in daylight on the patio – so if you have your VES Man in the Moon pin\, or other VES paraphernalia\, wear it so we can help identify each other.  \n  \nRemember that the VES fall membership period is here\, so bring a friend or two to enjoy the venue and meet some of your fellow VES members! \n\n
