SUMMARY:Screening - HARD RESET in 3D w/ Q&A (Los Angeles)
DESCRIPTION:VES Members and Their Guests are Invited to 3D Screenings of the Award-Winning Short HARD RESET followed by Q&A with the filmmakers \nClick here to RSVP \nSunday\, July 31\, 2016 at 2:00PM and 3:30PM (with Q&As after each show) \nDowntown Independent theater \n251 S. Main St.\, Los Angeles\, CA 90012 \nClick here for a map. \n  \n3-D SPACE: The Center For Stereoscopic Photography\, Art\, Cinema\, and Education presents 2 screenings of the winner of the Best Live-Action Short award at the 2016 Advanced Imaging Society Creative Arts Award\, HARD RESET is a 42-minute science-fiction action film  the first 3-D graduate student thesis film at The University of Texas at Austin  centered around a young detective investigating an impending artificial intelligence revolution. He is forced to choose between humanity and his android girlfriend after she is infected with a virus that gives her full consciousness. Q&A following the film with director Deepak Chetty and additional crew members. \n	We will be screening HARD RESET  twice – at 2:00PM and 3:30PM – Your ticket will get you into either show. \n	In the distant future: a controlling corporate government\, GOVCentral\, aims to eliminate a faction of rebels called the EMANCIPATORS whose goal is to provide freedom for all SYNTHS\, the artificially intelligent bio-mechanical androids that are restricted into subservient roles within every strata of society. The Emancipators believe that restricting the Synths\, who are capable of true sentience like any human being is tantamount to slavery\, and wish to break their bonds and let them control their own destiny. A young detective named Miles Archer is thrust into the center of this struggle after a botched hard-reset leads to him colliding paths with Jane\, a rogue Pleasure-Model Synthetic infected with the “emancipation virus”. For the first time in her existence she feels emotions as an individual yearning for freedom. Knowing that her memory core holds the key to Synthetic liberation\, she enlightens Archer to the moral and ethical opportunity he has to help her achieve this goal. After being labeled a traitor\, Archer is\n	forced to choose between his newfound empathy toward Synthetics and his duty as a GovCentral officer. \n	VISUAL & THEMATIC STYLE:\n	The distant future\, where monolithic super structures dotted with neon holographic signs fade into the clouds as highways of flying cars crisscross against the horizon. Synths are everywhere. They are your bank tellers\, construction workers\, prostitutes and even your schoolteachers. Hard Reset is influenced heavily by contemporary noir science fiction seen in films like Blade Runner\, Minority Report and Total Recall. A\n	distant future fraught with moral ambiguity brought on by extreme advancements in technology. Borrowing from the success of these themes we take a unique approach to timeless questions of social equality\, moral responsibility\, fear of the unknown and the complex nature of humanity. \n	THE FILMMAKERS\n	Deepak Chetty: Director/Co-Writer\n	is a Director\, Visual Effects artist and Cinematographer based in Austin\, Texas. SUMMARY:Screening - THE LITTLE PRINCE w/ Q&A (Bay Area)
DESCRIPTION:Bay Area VES Members and a Guest are Invited to a Pre-Release Screening of Netflix’s THE LITTLE PRINCE followed by a Q&A with Director Mark Osborne \nClick here to RSVP \nTuesday\, August 2\, 2016 at 7:00PM \nSkywalker Ranch in the Stag Theater \n5858 Lucas Valley Road\, Nicasio\, CA 94946\n	Click here for a map \n  \nYou and a guest are invited to join us at the Stag Theater at Skywalker Ranch for an advanced screening of THE LITTLE PRINCE\, followed by a Q&A with acclaimed director Mark Osborne. Based on the book of the same name\, the film follows Elena\, a prodigiously gifted young girl living in a world of grown-ups\, being urged by her mother to leave her childhood behind in hopes of enrolling her into the prestigious Werth Academy. But the “life plan” her mother has created for her sounds much less appealing after listening to the stories of the “Little Prince” from the eccentric elderly aviator living next door.\n	 \n	Brought to us by our friends at Netflix\, THE LITTLE PRINCE creates a world of childhood that lasts forever\, written for both children and adults.  It creates the idea that childhood always remains in the hearts of adults and that though we may grow up\, we do not have to lose that sense of imagination. \nAbout The Little Prince\n	Rediscover one of the most beloved stories of all time.  From Mark Osborne\, Academy Award®-nominated director of KUNG FU PANDA\, comes the award-winning adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s iconic masterpiece\, THE LITTLE PRINCE.   At the heart of it all is The Little Girl (Mackenzie Foy)\, who’s being prepared by her mother (Rachel McAdams) for the very grown-up world in which they live – only to be interrupted by her eccentric\, kind-hearted neighbor\, The Aviator (Jeff Bridges).  The Aviator introduces her to an extraordinary new world where anything is possible.   A world that he himself was initiated into long ago by The Little Prince (Riley Osborne).  It’s here that her magical and emotional journey into the universe of The Little Prince begins.  And where The Little Girl discovers that it is only with the heart that one can see rightly what is essential is invisible to the eye. \n  \nAbout Mark Osborne\n	Two time Academy Award nominated director Mark Osborne has been telling stories with animation and live-action for more than twenty-five years.  Currently\, Osborne has directed and Executive Produced the upcoming first-ever animated feature film adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved classic\, The Little Prince. Osborne’s breakout was DreamWorks’ critically acclaimed animated box office hit\, KUNG FU PANDA. The film premiered Out of Competition at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival going on to receive an Academy Award®-nomination for Best Animated Feature.  Among Osborne’s other credits include the animated stop-motion short film\, MORE.  Written and directed by Osborne\, the film screened at more than 150 film festivals worldwide and received numerous awards and nominations including an Academy Award®-nomination for Best Short Film\, a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival\, and an Annie Award-nomination. Osborne studied foundation art at New York’s Pratt Institute before earning his BFA in experimental animation from the California Institute of the Arts. In 1997\, Osborne returned to CalArts to teach Advanced Filmmaking Techniques and has since given lectures and taught on the subject of animation worldwide including Tokyo\, China\, Italy\, Norway\, Canada and all over the U.S. \n  \nWatch the Trailer Here! \nhttps://trailers.apple.com/trailers/paramount/thelittleprince/
