SUMMARY:Event - ACES: A Standardized Production Infrastructure for VFX (Los Angeles)
DESCRIPTION:The Visual Effects Society and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences present ACES: A Standardized Production Infrastructure for VFX \nTuesday\, August 11\, from 2:00PM to 3:30PM\n	(doors open at 1:15PM)\n	Los Angeles Convention Center\, Room 515AB\n	1201 S Figueroa St\, Los Angeles\, CA 90015\n	Click here for a map. \nThis session covers the practical information\, engineering and science needed to understand and use the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES)\, which is becoming the standard for color management\, image interchange and archiving for motion pictures and television. Developed by the motion picture creative and technology communities\, under the auspices of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences\, ACES provides true match clips so CG artists can see what the filmmakers meant for them to see\, furnishes common color transforms and metadata so that supervising VFX teams and DI colorists can better integrate footage from multiple facilities\, helps maintain the creative integrity of VFX images downstream\, expands the creative palette with high dynamic range and wide color gamut capabilities\, arms small shops with the ability to punch above their weight and opens the door to running multiple shows on one pipeline. \nGain a deeper understanding of what ACES means for VFX. Hear tips about how to get your facility up to speed. Learn how VFX artists use ACES on recent\, high profile projects. And\, understand from colorists how ACES helps protect VFX artistry. \nSpeakers will include VES member and four-time Academy Award winner for Scientific and Engineering Achievement and President and founder of RFX Inc. Ray Feeney\, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Michael Whipple\, Senior Compositor and Color Pipeline Specialist on THE LEGO MOVIE and THE GREAT GATSBY Alex Fry and Skylab Technical Director from CHAPPIE and ELYSIUM Chris Davies with moderation by VES member\, CTO and Creative Partner at Felix & Paul Studios and former CTO of Weta Digital Sebastian Sylwan.

Please e-mail 99HomesScreenings@gmail.com if you are unable to attend. \nIn this timely thriller\, charismatic and ruthless businessman Rick Carver (Academy Award® nominee Michael Shannon) is making a killing by repossessing homes – gaming the real estate market\, Wall Street banks and the US government. When he evicts Dennis Nash (Golden Globe nominee Andrew Garfield)\, a single father trying to care for his mother (Academy Award® nominee Laura Dern) and young son (newcomer Noah Lomax)\, Nash becomes so desperate to provide for his family that he goes to work for Carver – the very man who evicted him in the first place. \nCarver promises Nash a way to regain his home and earn security for his family\, but slyly seduces him into a lifestyle of wealth and glamour. It is a deal-with-the-devil that comes with an increasingly high cost – on Carver’s orders\, Nash must evict families from their homes. As Nash falls deeper into Carver’s web\, he finds his situation grows more brutal and dangerous than he ever imagined. \n99 HOMES is directed by Ramin Bahrani\, produced by Ashok Amritraj\, Ramin Bahrani\, Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen. The screenplay was written by Ramin Bahrani and Amir Naderi\, from a story by Ramin Bahrani and Bahareh Azimi.  Cinematography by Bobby Bukowski\, Edited by Ramin Bahrani\, Production Design by Alex DiGerlando\, Original Score by Anthony Partos and Matteo Zingales\, Costume Design by Meghan Kasperlik\, Make-Up and Hairstyling by Remi Savva and Amy Wood\, Sound Mixing by Micah Bloomberg and Mark A.
