SUMMARY:Screening -- THE PAPER BAG PLAN w/Q&A (Bay Area)
DESCRIPTION:Note from Mike Conte: This film is absolutely wonderful! Honestly it made me cry. \nVES Bay Area members and their guests are invited to a screening of film festival favorite The Paper Bag Plan followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker\, ILM alumnus Anthony Lucero. \nThe film has about 120 invisible VFX shots\, of which Pixomondo did the majority of the work pro bono. \nYou can pick from these two screenings. Each is followed by a Q&A: \nSaturday 9/13/25\, 6:45pm\, Grand Lake Theater in Oakland\nThursday 9/18/25\, 7:00pm. Smith Rafael Theater in San Rafael \nIf you have questions\, please reach out to Mike Conte at 415-316-3100. \nAbout The Paper Bag Plan\nOscar has dedicated his life to the well-being of his disabled son\, Billy. But after a cancer diagnosis\, Oscar comes face-to-face with the thought of\, “Who will care for my son once I die?”  Scrambling to find some kind of job placement for Billy\, Oscar notices a Help Wanted sign at a nearby grocery store. With their remaining precious time together\, he intrepidly works to teach his son the skills needed to work as a bagger\, in the hopes of Billy beginning a life of independence. \nDetails\nSaturday\, September 13\, 2025\n6:45pm screening\nGrand Lake Theater\n3200 Grand Ave\, Oakland\, CA 94610 \nThursday\, September 18\, 2025\n7:00pm screening\nSmith Rafael Film Center\n1118 4th St\, San Rafael\, CA 94901 \nTo RSVP\, click here:\nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeJgv–a5iNf9C84Dh0GTeOU36n88KvYDPKLeD5b6eyMMW56w/viewform?usp=dialog

SUMMARY:SIGGRAPH 2025 Recap Roundtable online
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n \nEvery year at the Siggraph convention\, the VES brings a great contingent into town\, and a great community to share and socialize with. But not everyone (not even most of us!) get to go to the show. That’s why we do a roundtable online to bring attendees together with our members who want to hear about what happened\, what went down\, and what was up this year. \nIt’s a chance to get a glimpse of what the conference had to offer\, hear about trending tech topics\, and ask questions about what’s making an impression across the computer graphics industry. \nThe format will be a 1-hour Zoom session with speakers sharing their observations\, in a roundtable setting for conversations and multiple perspectives. \nMonday\, September 22nd\n6:30pm PDT \nThis will NOT be recorded\, so we hope to see you there\, LIVE! \nNo need to RSVP\, just join the call with this link:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meetings/81898450909/ \nIf you have topics you would like to see addressed\, please send an email in advance to the evening’s moderator: \nJeff A.
