DESCRIPTION:Where: USC Stark Theatre\,  900 West 34th St.\, Los Angeles\, CA \nNetflix\, YouTube\, Amazon\, Film Festivals—content distribution channels are multiplying at a staggering rate.   And who is going to fill those distribution channels?  You!  Because you are the only one who can express your own vision in your own voice.   These presentations will cover how three inspired directors are sharing their creativity in film and animation. \nPrincipal Speakers: \nJoshua Caldwell\, a director\, writer\, producer and MTV Movie Movie award winner will share his process on his debut feature film\, Layover.  Layover\, made for $6000\, had its world premiere at the 2014 Seattle International Film Festival where it was nominated for the prestigious FIPRESCI New American Cinema Award. \nAndrew Wood\, a USC Masters student will present his work on his award winning live action/animation film\, When Pigs Fly.  This project for which he raised $21\,713 on Kickstarter\, won the prestigeous Fox Fellowship grant and is his USC M.F.A thesis film about never outgrowing your imagination. \nSam Wickert\, a Chapman University student in digital arts and production will present the directing\, editing and vfx work that he used to create the videos on his YouTube channel\, SoKrispyMedia which has over 69 million views and over 336\,000 subscribers. \nModerator:  Michael Fink\,  Academy Award winning Visual Effects Supervisor\, \nChair\, Film and Television Production\, USC School of Cinematic Arts \nRegistration – 9:30am-10:00am \nFree for VES members and USC Students \nLA ACM SIGGRAPH members $10.  All other non-members $20. \n  \nRegistration for this Event is CLOSED

DESCRIPTION:Where: 1611 N El Centro Ave \nLos Angeles\, CA 90028 \n  \nCome out and mingle with your fellow VES members and their friends at some of the coolest hotspots in town! VES-LA has started PUB NIGHTS where we will meet up at different bars\, lounges or clubs throughout the LA area. Each time will be a different “must see” place- a perfect opportunity to check out that place you keep hearing about\, or discover an awesome hidden jewel you didn’t know existed!  It’s an informal get together\, so you can bring your friends\, co-workers or Sig-Other\, but there will always be at least one or two board members present in case you want to have a cocktail-napkin-meeting. :)  \n  \nStart your week off with a little 70’s throwback  and a secret entrance with our PUB NIGHT on July 18th at Good Times at Davy Wayne’s.  After showing ID\, you may wonder why you were pointed to a funky garage sale.  Walk like a pro straight to the refrigerator and open the “secret door” to the lounge.  To distinguish ourselves from the usual patrons we will be giving out flashing VES pins to VES members.  Just walk up to anyone with a flashing pin and let them know you are a member and to point you to the person giving them out (like how we gave you a conversation starter there?  You’re welcome.).  Or if you want to just skip all conversation with strangers and you know Lopsie\, look for her in the patio area wearing her flashing pin and ordering a drink from the airstream trailer or some food from the BBQ to get your flashing pin. \n  \nSee you there\, and keep an eye out for another PUB NIGHT coming up later this month again\, with another secret entrance!
