DESCRIPTION:Click here to RSVP\n Wednesday\, November 29\, 2017 at 7:30PM\n (RSVPs close at 5:00PM on Saturday\, November 25)\n Samuel Goldwyn Theater\n 8949 Wilshire Blvd.\, Beverly Hills\, CA\, 90211\n (Click here for a map.) \n \n \n\n\n\n\nPresented by the Academy Science and Technology Council in Collaboration with NASA \nJoin us for a special public program featuring the filmmakers behind Hidden Figures and NASA “Modern Figures” scientists. Moderated by Beverly J. Wood\, the panel will include Fox 2000 president Elizabeth Gabler\, writer-director-producer Theodore Melfi\, film editor Peter Teschner\, cinematographer Mandy Walker\, NASA historian Dr. Bill Barry and NASA engineers Tracy Drain\, Jennifer Trosper and Powtawche Valerino (schedules permitting). \nHidden Figures\, which received three Academy Award nominations\, including Best Picture\, deals with racism\, gender bias\, technology and triumph. Set at NASA’s facility in Hampton\, Virginia\, in the early 1960s\, it tells the story of African-American women “computers” who fought to make a contribution to the space race\, despite how they were viewed by society during this era of segregation and sexism. The program will include clips from the film and a panel discussion about the past\, present and future in space math\, diversity and the movies. \nThis Academy Science and Technology Council program is made possible by generous support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\nFor parking information and theater policies\, click here. \n \n \n \n\n

SUMMARY:Special Screening- The Florida Project- New Zealand
DESCRIPTION:Blue Cat Pictures on behalf of A24 Films and ANZ distributor Icon Film Distribution is delighted to invite VES members and guests to a special preview screening of Sean Baker’s THE FLORIDA PROJECT.\n\n	 \n\n	\n\n	When: Sunday 3rd December \n\n\n\n Time: 10.30am\n Location: Roxy Cinema\, 5 Park Road\, Miramar\, Wellington\n\n			 \n \n\n RSVP is essential: RSVP HERE\n\n		 \n\n Synopsis: Set on a stretch of highway just outside the imagined utopia of Disney World\, director Sean Baker’s THE FLORIDA PROJECT follows six-year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince) and her rag-tag gang of friends. Moonee and her rebellious mother Halley (Bria Vinaite) live week to week at a budget motel managed by Bobby (Willem Dafoe)\, whose stern exterior hides a deep reservoir of kindness and compassion. Despite her harsh surroundings\, Moonee has no trouble making each day a celebration of life\, her afternoons overflowing with mischief and adventure. Unbeknownst to Moonee\, however\, her delicate fantasy is supported by the struggle and sacrifice of Halley\, who is forced to explore increasingly dangerous possibilities in order to provide for her daughter. Written by Sean Baker and Chris Bergoch\, THE FLORIDA PROJECToffers a depiction of contemporary lives lived in the margins and how anywhere can be a Magic Kingdom – it just depends on how you see it.\n\n		 \n\n THE FLORIDA PROJECT is produced by Sean Baker\, Chris Bergoch\, Kevin Chinoy\, Andrew Duncan\, Alex Saks\, Francesca Silvestri and Shih-Ching Tsou.\n\n		 \n\n Duration: 111 minutes\n\n		 \n\n Icon Film Distribution is releasing the film nationally on 21st December\, 2017.\n\n		 \n\n For more information on the film\, please visit: https://a24screenings.com/the-florida-project/\n\n
