SUMMARY:Event - Emerging Technologies Expo (Los Angeles)
DESCRIPTION:VES Members are Invited to the Art Directors Guild’s Emerging Technologies Expo \n \nThe ADG’s Professional Development Committee is pleased to announce the third event in their series of Education Expos. This Exposition will focus attention on Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality and other next-step technologies\, such as advanced manufacturing and visual effects. \n  \nThis event is free to attend with RSVP – do so today to save your place! \n  \nAs ADG member and USC School of Cinematic Arts professor Alex McDowell recently wrote: \n“We are confronting change within our entertainment media platforms at a scale unobserved since the early days of film\, more than a hundred years ago. The medium and practice of cinema has evolved beyond recognition. And in parallel we recognize the rapid development of other\, more recent\, entertainment media and understand that it is essential to examine the impact of these radical changes and their potential infuence on one another. There is no longer reasonable justification for considering the crafts of  lm\, animation\, television\, interactive media\, and post- cinematic media space of mixed\, virtual and augmented reality to be distinct and separate.” \n  \nConfirmed presenters for Saturday\, March 4th: \n  \nHarrison Ellenshaw – Artist extraordinaire who will share his experiences from the birth of modern visual effects. https://www.harrisonellenshaw.com/ \n  \nGuy Martin – Principal at Guy Martin Design and member of the Association of Robots in Architecture\, counts among his clients: SpaceX\, Philippe Starck\, and many others. Try out Microsoft’s groundbreaking augmented reality headset with one of your own models (details to follow). https://goo.gl/6bRV7g \n  \nGreg Brown – Creative Specialist with Foundry will be demonstrating the real-time and VR capabilities in the 3D app MODO.  \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9Qt8qgaWiM \n  \nGare Cline – ADG – Explores the interface between visual effects and the art department. www.banksyde.com \n  \nSteve Kaplan –  International Representative at the IATSE West Coast Office will be on hand to discuss the the union’s efforts in organizing visual effects and answer questions. \n  \nConfirmed presenters for Sunday\, March 5th: \n  \nMichael Chambliss – of the International Cinematographers Guild & IATSE Local 600 will kick off Day Two\, providing a new perspective on the changes in technology. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1095761/ \n  \nKarl Meyer – of Burbank-based Gentle Giant  – on the front lines with 3D scanning and printing; prepare to be impressed. https://www.gentlegiantstudios.com \n  \nAlex Oliver – Principal of Skillwire is back with more Sketchup and augmented reality demos. \n  \nYazan Malkosh – of 9b Studios will discuss remote collaboration using Sketchfab VR and custom tools. https://www.9bstudios.com\, https://sketchfab.com/virtual-reality \n  \nSean Kennedy – Former Rhythm and Hues VFX compositor and with CoSA\, Sean demonstrates how VFX artists creatively approach their craft. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0448332/ \n  \nSteve Kaplan –  International Representative at the IATSE West Coast Office will be on hand to discuss the the union’s efforts in organizing visual effects and answer questions. \n  \nWe’ll also have a continuous “show floor” with VR / AR demos and vendors booths throughout the whole weekend. \n  \nRSVP today and stay tuned for updates! \n  \nArt Directors Guild\, 11969 Ventura Blvd.\, 2nd Floor\, Studio City\, CA 91604
