SUMMARY:3rd Annual VES Awards
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 3rd Annual Visual Effects Society Awards – as they say\, the third time’s the charm and this year’s awards are no exception! \nTonight we’re throwing the coolest party of the year for the visual effects community. Joining us will be one of the true visual effects masters of our time – VES Lifetime Honoree and Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis\, who has entertained us through the years with numerous dazzling projects including Who Framed Roger Rabbit?\, the Back to the Future trilogy\, Forrest Gump\, and the recently released Polar Express. \nIn addition\, Don Shay\, publisher of everyone’s favorite bible\, Cinefex\, will honor us as the recipient of the Board of Directors Award. \nNew this year will be the presentation of the inaugural Georges Melies Award to an individual who has pioneered a lasting contribution I n the field of Visual Effects. The first recipient of this honor is Robert Abel\, and to pick up the award on his behalf will be his daughter\, Marah. \nAnd\, last but not least\, are the true stars of tonight’s show – all of you. The collected genius assembled here at the Palladium represents the greatest array of visual effects talent the world has ever seen. Without all of you\, and the magic that you either create or inspire\, Polar Express and Sky Captain wouldn’t have been able to rewrite the rules for filmmaking\, Shrek 2’s Puss ‘N’ Boots wouldn’t have made us laugh in spite of ourselves\, Citroen’s new car wouldn’t have been able to pull off those eye-popping dance moves\, and Star Trek Enterprise wouldn’t always be so entertaining. And that would be a great loss for the rest of us. \nSo\, as we pull back the curtain on tonight’s festivities\, remember to suspend your sense of disbelief\, because tonight you’re in for some true magic. Please join me in offering heartfelt congratulations to all the nominees in attendance because they are all winners. And so are we because we get to work in the special world of visual effects! \nLocation: Hollywood Palladium 6215 Sunset Blvd. Hollywood\, CA 90028

SUMMARY:VES 2005 A Festival of Visual Effects
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 7th Annual VES Festival where you and some of the savviest people around will get to see how visual effects magic allows HERBIE THE LOVE BUG to seem almost human\, how light-saber fights in STAR WARS actually occur\, and how gory forensic clues lead to solving murder cases on CSI.  Our festival is a cornucopia of sights\, sounds\, and effects – and you have a front row seat! \nJust who are these magicians?  They are members of a specialized community known as visual effects artists and the best of the best are members of the Visual Effects Society.  Represented in about a dozen countries worldwide\, VES has approximately 1250 members from the fields of film\, TV\, animation\, and computer gaming who make the impossible\, possible and who are able to create the most amazing situations you’ll ever see on screen. \nLike all good magicians who utilize “sleight of hand”\, VES artists are able to create “sleight of eye” in that most of the time you aren’t even aware of the magic as you are watching it…More \n\n	Visit the Full 2005 VES Festival of Visual Effects Page

SUMMARY:4th Annual VES Awards
DESCRIPTION:Although this is the time of year when awards shows proliferate\, tonight you’ll witness something that none of the other shows have – billions of dollars’ worth of the most amazing visual effects you can possibly imagine. In fact\, I think you can say that the field of visual effects has truly come into its own and is now a major component in all facets of the entertainment industry. This is because virtually all delivered entertainment\, whether it is movies\, TV\, animation\, video games\, commercials\, or special venues use visual effects in one way or another. Whether you want to see King Kong swatting away bi-planes or to enjoy traveling back in time with the wizards of Guinness Beer\, you’ll need visual effects to tell you story. \nAs we admire the best work in visual effects for this past year\, and honor John Lasseter with the George Melies Award for Pioneering & Artistic Excellence and Jim Morris with the VES Board of Directors Award\, just remember\, if you want to know who the best visual artists in the world are\, just look around you – because they are right here in the room next to you! \nLocation: Hollywood Palladium 6215 Sunset Blvd. Hollywood\, CA 90028
