SUMMARY:Working Overseas Panel
DESCRIPTION:Today we are all living in a global economy and many of us have been or will be called on to work in other countries at some point during our careers. Our panelists\, who have all had a great deal of experience working outside the United States\, will discuss many issues. They will cover everything from language issues to cultural faux pas\, monetary realities to food and lodging\, family adjustments to reintegrating back into the US\, and much\, much more. This will be a most enlightening and\, we suspect\, occasionally humorous event. \n\n	Video Gallery (Available to logged in VES Members only)\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n Watch part 1\n\n Watch part 2\n\n Watch part 3\n\n\n\nMODERATORS: \n\n\n Frank Gladstone\, globe trotting Emmy award winning\n\n Animation/Visual Effects Consultant\n\n Art Durinski\, Visual Effects Supervisor/Computer Animation\n\n Director\, who has done extensive work in Japan and China\n\nPANELISTS: \n\n\n Director\, Tony Leondis (Igor\, Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch)\n\n Visual Effects Supervisor\, Mike Fink (Academy Award winner—Golden Compass)\n\n Visual Effects Supervisor\, Tim McGovern (Academy Award winner—Total Recall)\n\n Senior Visual Effects Producer\, Joyce Cox (Avatar\, Dark Knight\, Superman Returns)\n\nIf you haven’t already worked out of the country\, the day may come when you will be offered that opportunity. It could be as close as Canada or Mexico\, or as far away as China\, India or New Zealand. “Working Overseas” will be a good way to share your own adventures as well as learn form others who have had the experience. We hope to see you at the panel. \nThe “Working Overseas” event will be held at Sony Imageworks’ Ince Theatre\, 9050 West Washington Blvd. Culver City on Thursday\, October 16th\, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. \nFEES: FREE for VES Members. All non-members $10.00

SUMMARY:7th Annual VES Awards
DESCRIPTION:We have some truly wonderful visual effects work to honor this year\, and a great show to acknowledge all the people who made this work possible. Every year the work created by extraordinary visual effects artists worldwide gets better and better. And this year\, the bar has been set even higher than ever. \nIn order to show you all this amazing work\, an army of incredibly talented people\, mostly volunteers\, has been working since last year’s show to make tonight a reality. If you take a look around the room you are likely to see many people who you know as talented artists. What you may not know is that many of them have volunteered many hours – and sacrificed nights and weekends – to bring this show to you tonight. Without them\, there would be no show. Therefore\, in addition to honoring all the artists and their work\, we also honor the spirit of the evening as we come together this time every year to acknowledge what truly is the “best of the best” of visual effects worldwide. \nSo\, as we get ready to see what previously could only have been imagined\, and to have the special honor of Kathleen Kennedy\, Frank Marshall\, and Phil Tippett joining us tonight\, we should consider ourselves blessed to be in this room at this time. \nLocation: Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel. Beverly Hills\, CA

SUMMARY:HDRI Lighting Technique Made Simple for Visual Effects
DESCRIPTION:Gathering light data on set and location garners mixed results depending on your knowledge of what is possible and what is needed. The quality of your HDRI data is dependent on the quality and accuracy of the gathering techniques you employ. \nThis presentation will cover various options for data collection and discuss processing and evaluation of the HDRI data collected to produce photo-real renders. We will also discuss the technical and financial benefits of rendering with HDRI data and show how capturing accurate HDRI’s will retain the Director of Photography’s vision of on set lighting choices in the CG world; thereby not only helping to improve the quality of the images\, but also reducing costs for both vendor and producer alike. \nVFX clips from G-FORCE\, G.I. JOE and THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON will be screened and the in depth use of HDRI lighting technology will be discussed. MODERATOR: Hoyt Yeatman – Director \nPANELISTS: \n\n\n Scott Stokdyk\, VFX Supervisor – G-Force (Disney Pictures)\n\n Boyd Shermis\, VFX Supervisor – G.I. Joe – The Rise of Cobra (Paramount + Spyglass)\n\n Jonathan Litt\, CG Supervisor – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – (Digital Domain)\n\n Stefan Sonnenfeld\, President/Managing Director – Company 3\n\nPLACE: Clarity Theater\n	100 N. Crescent Drive (just north of Wilshire Blvd)\n	Beverly Hills\, CA 90210 \nFEES: Free for VES Members\, all Academy\, ASC\, PGA + DGA Members (discount fee $10)\n	All non-members ($20.00 fee)
