I have more than 40 years of experience with Ultimatte bluescreen and greenscreen production.  I have decades of experience with motion control, virtual studio production including the first HD virtual studio shoot in 2004 utilizing “gamer” hardware.

I want to work on educational aspects of visual effects.  I have already created what might be the first virtual production class in the state.  I want to continue that aspect.  I also want to see the skills and techniques we use expanded from feature film and commercial to corporate and live production environments.

    Candidate Statement:

Coming from both VFX and Tech, I feel that my angle can help invest in growth and education for our members. I feel that my perspective can add to the impact that this chapter already offers. I am interested with the advancement of new technology for the creative artisans. Similar to what color was to film or the inventiveness of technologies of tracking, chroma keying, and other the various tools that we use daily, I have an interest in what people can do with emerging techniques and innovations to craft their stories and worlds.

    Will Nicholson

    Section Affiliation: Texas

Job Title or Description: VFX Artist/Supervisor – 30+ years

    Candidate Statement:

Being a Texas-born and raised visual effects artist and supervisor with over thirty years in the books, I care deeply about building a viable, respected, and sustainable VFX community here in the Lone Star State. My experiences from working all over the world with a wide range of clients—from special venue and commercial work to television and feature films—have given me both a broad perspective on how our industry functions and a robust network of colleagues and collaborators. These are crucial in the pursuit of bringing more opportunity, visibility, and credibility to Texas-based artists.

As always, I will continue to advocate for the growth of Texas as a competitive VFX hub by promoting remote-friendly production pipelines, supporting tax incentives that benefit both local artists and out-of-state productions, and helping connect Texas talent with meaningful work. I bring firsthand experience building teams and creating hundreds of jobs over the years, and I understand what it takes to support artists across every stage of their careers—from those breaking in to seasoned professionals navigating an evolving industry.

Having been a member of the inaugural VES Texas BOM and a co-founder of A Bunch of Short Guys, a Dallas-based non-profit artists’ guild, I’ve seen the power of community, mentorship, and shared resources. I see it as an honor and a duty to bring that same builder’s mindset and advocacy to the Board of Managers, ensuring Texas VFX artists have a strong voice and a growing seat at the table.
